The Suffolk Book League is hosting the launch of the latest book, 'Across the Blood-Red Skies', by bestselling local author Robert Radcliffe; as Robert Mawson his novel 'Lazarus Child' was in all the headlines due to the size of the advance he was given. Robert will be talking about writing for publication - how he organises his work, how to be aware of what will appeal to agents and publishers.

EDP East Anglian Book Awards 2010

tTe submission deadline of July 31st for the EDP East Anglian Book Awards for 2010. The ceremony takes place at The Assembly House this year, and the short listed and winning books get excellent sales boosts and PR coverage via the EDP, Jarrold and all the partners including Writers’ Centre Norwich. If you know any books, authors, agents or publishers who should be pushing forward titles into any of the following categories:

Fiction/Poetry/Nature and Places/Art and Photography/History and Tradition/Biography and Memoir/Guidebooks and Travel

Books need to have been published between August 1, 2009 and July 31, 2010. The judges this year will include: Keith Skipper, Professor Jean Boase-Beier, Ian Collins and Ann Thwaite.

Manchester Poetry Prize

Under the direction of Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University is launching the second Manchester Poetry Prize – a major international literary competition celebrating excellence in creative writing.
In addition to the main prize, a bursary for study at MMU will be awarded to one entrant aged 18-25 as part of the Manchester Young Writer of the Year Award*.

All entrants are asked to submit a portfolio of three to five poems (total maximum length 120 lines). The poems can be on any subject, and written in any style, but must be new work, not published or submitted for consideration elsewhere.

The prizes will be awarded at a gala dinner hosted at Manchester Metropolitan University

Manchester Childrens Book Festival

Tickets are now on sale for the first Manchester Children's Book Festival. Launched from the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University, and directed by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, the Festival runs from 1st-4th July 2010.
Events and activities include:

- fundraising Gala Dinner at the Midland Hotel in Manchester with Carol Ann Duffy, Jeanette Winterson and celebrity guests

Cosmopolis at UEA June 5

Cosmopolis will bring together distinguished figures from the arts who have contributed to stories that have become important to audiences and readerships around the world. It will mark the official launch of the Think Something Different scheme, a high-profile initiative designed to create a scholarship fund for the University’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities and it will be the University of East Anglia's contribution to the Norwich bid to be the next European Capital of Culture.

The day will see a variety of events taking place, including discussions about human rights, politics, the visual arts, literature, cinema and photography, as well as a series of masterclasses from leading industry insiders. Among the eminent contributors will be writers such as Amit Chaudhuri, Geoff Dyer, Giles Foden and Jay Griffiths.

Hedgerow Medicine Workshop

Authors of: Hedgerow Medicine, Kitchen Medicineare offering a workshop on hedgerow medicine making on Saturday 26th June 2010 in Norfolk. The workshop will be from 11.30am to 5pm and include a herb walk for identification and harvesting, followed by a practical session making medicines. We will cover the basics of making tinctures, glycerites, infused oils and ointments.
